How to Use BattleIQ's Damage Calculator
Learn how to select attackers and defenders, read damage ranges and KO estimates, and test field conditions in the BattleIQ Damage Calculator.
Start with the exact battle question
The Damage Calculator is strongest when you begin with one concrete question: can this attacker pick up a KO, can this defender survive, or does a field condition change the line enough to matter?
Choose the active format first, then select the attacker, defender, forms, levels, items, abilities, nature, SP spread, and move that match the situation you want to test.
Select attacker and defender details
BattleIQ keeps Pokemon build details separate from temporary battle state. Pokemon, form, item, ability, moves, nature, level, and SP values describe the build you are testing.
For National Dex calculations, form-specific defaults such as required Mega items, fixed gender behavior, Tera options, and Z-Move eligibility appear only when the selected format and item configuration support them.
Read the damage range
The displayed damage range shows the possible damage rolls under the current inputs. Use the percentage range and HP outcome together: a high percentage is not always a guaranteed KO, and a low roll may still matter if chip damage is expected.
When a move has dynamic behavior, such as field-dependent power or type changes, verify that the visible field and move-state controls match the scenario you are trying to answer.
Use KO estimates carefully
KO estimates are planning shortcuts. A guaranteed OHKO, possible OHKO, guaranteed 2HKO, or survival line is only as accurate as the selected build, field state, and battle assumptions.
If the result is close, test the common alternatives: different item, nature, SP investment, weather, screen state, critical hit, or spread-damage modifier.
Check field conditions and doubles modifiers
Weather, terrain, Tailwind, Trick Room, screens, Helping Hand, Friend Guard, Gravity, status, stat stages, and doubles spread damage can all change the practical answer.
Use the Reset Field & Boosts action when you want to preserve the two Pokemon builds but clear temporary battle-state assumptions before asking the next question.
Turn calculator results into preparation
A useful calculation usually creates a decision: invest more bulk, change an item, adjust speed, choose a safer move, or accept that a matchup needs positioning support.
Save exact lines only when they affect preparation. BattleIQ is meant to reduce uncertainty, not replace practice, tournament rules, or in-game judgment.
